“The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot

Last week I finished reading a very interesting book “The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot”

Perhaps the most impressive biographical feat of the twenty-first century, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is about a woman whose cells completely changed the trajectory of modern medicine.

Rebecca Skloot skillfully commemorates the previously unknown life of a poor black woman whose cancer cells were taken, without her knowledge, for medical testing — and without whom we wouldn’t have many of the critical cures we depend upon today.

HeLa cells (as they are called) not only survived but allowed scientists to conduct unprecedented research on disease and genetics, as well as develop new medical treatments and vaccines

This is a very powerful and informative story that leaves one with more questions than it answers, especially at this moment with the explosion in investment and growth in health/biotech.

Also, with the history of personal freedoms, civil rights, and the right to privacy.
